Steeldogs give a big welcome back to Bradfield Brewery

Bradfield Brewery are proud to be once again sponsoring the Sheffield Steeldogs for the 2019-2020 season.

Roger Williams provided the below article on confirming the continued support.

Everyone at the club is very happy that we go in to the 2019/20 season once again as the Bradfield Brewery Sheffield Steeldogs.
Our partnership with Bradfield Brewery goes back over many years and this will be the seventh season they have been our title sponsor.
Based at Watt House Farm in Lower Bradfield, Bradfield Brewery have been making award winning beers since 2005. The business has grown since then, with their beers now available at pubs across South Yorkshire and beyond. The shop at the brewery offers the full range of ales and for those wanting to enjoy a fine pint in a relaxed environment there is The Nag’s Head in Loxley and the King & Miller in Deepcar – lots of opportunities to enjoy the best beer in Sheffield.
Steeldogs coach Ben Morgan is clear on the bond between the club and the brewery;
“The Bradfield Brewery has become synonymous with the Sheffield Steeldogs. It’s fantastic welcoming John, Sue and the whole Bradfield Brewery family back onboard – they have been loyal to us for years. The players are very respectful of the everything they have done for us over the years and they feel privileged and proud having the name on the front of the jersey. We are a local team, we pride ourselves on local players and to have a local company ties in with everything we are all about.”
John Gill, owner of the Bradfield Brewery, likes the connection between the brewery and the team;
“I enjoy being a part of the Steeldogs family because you see passion out there in the ice, plenty of local lads going out there to play for that badge on the front of the jerseys. We just want to get behind this team and see where the season takes us. We want to watch those quality games each weekend and promote the Steeldogs alongside our brand and of course get both names out there.
“We really like the direction of the club since Ben has been in a coaching capacity – there is more energy within the club. Last season really made us enjoy our Steeldogs hockey experiences and the prospect of the new league structure is exciting. We will be seeing far more competitive games and seeing the team test themselves against the best week in, week out. It would be good to see even more new supporters come and follow the team – we saw several new faces last season who began to come back time and time again.”
Steeldogs co-owner Roger Williams welcomes the continued connection;
“John and Sue really love their hockey and it’s great to have title sponsors who are such fans too. The brewery is such a success story and over the past couple of years that has rubbed off on the team and hopefully we can share more of that this year. We are thrilled to have them onboard for another season as they do feel like a part of the club, a real part of the Steeldogs family. Having them along as we celebrate our tenth season is very fitting and we thank Bradfield Brewery for their continued support of the club.”

Farmers Ale Glass in Guinness World Record Attempt

Local Sheffield resident and Penistone Footpath Runner Peter Knight is known locally for running the miles dressed as an oversized bottle of Farmers Blonde. This year he has set himself an ambitious new challenge and will be donning a new costume in the shape of a beer glass. Peter is attempting to smash the world record for the fastest glass to run 26.2miles at this year’s London Marathon on 28th April.

Despite over 20 years running experience, Peter admits this latest challenge is an ambitious one and his training will need to be intense if he is to succeed in his attempt. The time for completing the marathon in this style of costume has been set at 4hrs and Peter is hopeful that he will be able to achieve a time within that. He has worked closely with costume makers Frenzy Creative to ensure that the costume meets the requirements of GWR and is as lightweight as possible in order to give him the biggest chance of success. Peter will be giving the costume a test run at the Sheffield Half Marathon on Sunday the 14th April – keep an eye out for him and give him a wave!

The idea for the glass costume was centred around Peter’s favorite tipple, Farmers Blonde and his previous running adventures in the Farmers Blonde Bottle costume. Commissioned by Bradfield Brewery, the glass resembles a pint of beer and features the Brewery’s branding. Having previously ran for the Brewery in their Blonde Bottle & Belgian Blue bottle costumes, Bradfield Brewery welcomed Peter’s idea to create a new costume for this world record attempt.
Where there’s a lot of running, there is usually a good cause and this is no exception! Peter embarked on this ambitious challenge to raise funds for MYAWARE.
MYAWARE is a charity that offers support to sufferers of Myasthenia, a rare condition that causes muscle weakness in a person’s voluntary muscles. These are muscles whose action is normally controlled by an individual’s will such as the arm and leg muscles. People with myasthenia have characteristically fatigable muscles and the harder people with myasthenia try, the weaker they get. The myasthenias are a group of neuromuscular conditions. They are rare but also manageable. Myasthenia can affect anyone, old or young and of any gender or nationality. A work colleague’s family has shared their experience of the struggles this condition can bring to family life with Peter and he felt compelled to offer support to the charity via his running challenge.
Peter Knight, speaking on this ambitious challenge, said “I have been contemplating a world record for quite some time and at the beginning of this year I decided that 2019 was the year to do it! Running is passion of mine and to be able to create a challenge revolving around something I enjoy doing, as well as supporting a great charity is a fantastic opportunity for me and I will be giving it my all to try and achieve the world record!”
A just giving page has been created for anyone who would like to support Peter on his world record mission – https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/fastglass
A series of events are due to take place in support of Peter’s world record attempt in aid of the Myaware charity, details of which can be found at www.bradfieldbrewery.com/events

Farmers Cold Start

Returning to the brewing schedule for a cold 2019 January is our winter themed seasonal ale, Farmers Cold Start.

First brewed in 2018, the beer proved popular on the bars and we didn’t hesitate to include it once again in this year’s brewing schedule!

At 3.8% abv, the offering is a smooth dark beer, created using arctic hops to create a bitter sweet flavour with winter floral tones.

Available to pubs in 9 & 18gallon casks and from the brewery shop in takeaway jugs, while stocks last.

Battle of the Bottles in Percy Pud 10k 2018

Farmers Blonde Bottle and Farmers Belgian Blue bottle costumes went neck and neck in this year’s Percy Pud 10K!

Organised by Steel City Striders, the 10k race around Bradfield is quite a grueler with sneaky twists and turns and a hilly bit or few!

Farmers Blonde is a regular runner of the race but this year he was joined by his new partner in crime Belgian Blue.

It was a tight race for the pair but eventually Farmers Blonde took the lead and crossed the line as the front runner for the bottles with a time of 60mins, 59secs! And only a few minutes behind, also with an impressive time, was Belgian Blue at 63 mins,37 secs.

Also running the race was a member of the Bradfield Brewery team, Josie Gill. Storming ahead of the bottles to scoop a time of 55min:15sec.

This winter race marks the start of the festive season and everyone crossing the finish line is rewarded with a Christmas Pudding & Wooly Hat!

Bradfield Brewery’s King & Miller Reopens following takeover and revamp

With refurbishment works now complete at The King & Miller in Deepcar, Managers Tom Redman and Natalie Wild are looking forward to welcoming customers through the doors on Thursday the 11th October from 5pm onwards.

The pub has undergone a long awaited internal makeover that has been aimed at preserving the pub’s history whilst giving it a fresh look. Bradfield Brewery took ownership of the King & Miller in April 2018 and the pub has been closed since then while works have been underway.

Original features from inside the building have been retained where possible and walls and floors restored with the addition of new seating and a small extension to the bar area. A ¾ size snooker table has taken residence within the games room area as well as seating booths added to the main lounge area of the pub. Externally the venue enjoys a large beer garden area to the rear and an additional seating area compliments the front of the property.

Farmers Ales from Bradfield Brewery will be available from the bar as well as complimentary range of larger, ciders, wines and soft drinks. The pub will be opening 7 days a week from 11:30am with a food offering soon to be introduced.

John Gill, Director of Bradfield Brewery is delighted on the re-opening of the new brewery pub “We are all excited here at Bradfield Brewery about the re-opening of the King & Miller. The pub has been at the centre of the local community for a very long time and I am sure if walls could talk, they would have quite some tales to tell! So now, as a Bradfield Brewery Pub with Tom and Natalie at the helm, Thursday the 11th October 2018 will be the beginning of a new chapter in this pub’s history. I would like to take this opportunity to extend a warm welcome to customers both old and new to come and be a part of this old Public Inn’s ongoing tale!”.
